Community Consolidated School District 181

What D181 Email Groups Exist?

Background

In Gmail (the district's email provider), there are two main types of groups:

- Domain/Global - These are district-created groups of staff/students that are accessible to everyone in the district (though some groups restrict who can send to the group). As changes are applied to these groups, they roll out to everybody.

- User/Local - These are local, user-created groupings of staff/students/parents/etc that are only accessible to the person who created the group.

Using D181 Email Groups

Domain Groups

The district has a lot of managed email groups, 202 at last count! These can be broken down into groups containing staff and those containing students:

Staff Groups

What kind of groups there are: Building staff, curricular area, grade-level, committee assignment, and more

Group Addresses: Check the D181 Staff Email Groups Google Sheet for the most current list of staff groups, addresses, and members.

Student Groups

What kind of groups there are: Every 2nd-5th grade homeroom has its own email group containing all the students in the homeroom.

Group Addresses: Every student group follows the pattern:

[School] + [Grade] + [Teacher]@d181students.org

e.g. elm2duchateau@d181students.org

e.g. lane5duchateau@d181students.org

User Groups

User groups can be a very helpful way to organize groups of your own contacts who you email frequently, regardless of student/staff/parent status. We won't dive into the ins-and-outs of that here, as Google maintains a very helpful article in their own knowledge base, check it out below:
